Warm tribute to European Museum Forum´s award-winners

We are proud to announce that two important contestants in last year´s European Museum of the Year Award Ceremony will participate in The Best in Heritage. The Best in Heritage is an annual event that serves to identify and promote the best museum, heritage and conservation projects in the world. Its conference programme is impressive as always, with laureates from all over the world gathering in the beautiful old city of Dubrovnik, Croatia, from 19-21 September 2013.

The Glasnevin Museum (Dublin, Ireland), winner of the Kenneth Hudson Award 2012;TOPIC: the International Puppet Museum Centre (Tolosa, Spain), winner of Silletto Prize 2012 and the Rautenstrauch-Joest Museum (Cologne, Germany), winner of the Council of Europe Museum Prize 2012, will be representing the European Museum Forum´s winners. They will elaborate on the creative and innovative approach which earned them their awards. And they are paid another warm tribute for their excellent and unique exhibition design and educational activities.

The Museum of Liverpool was awarded the Council of Europe Museum Prize for 2013 in a special ceremony in Strasbourg, France on 23 April 2013.

The European Museum of the Year Award (EMYA) 2012 will be announced in a special ceremony during the European Museum Forum Assembly taking place from 16-19 May in Penafiel in Portugal. For the 35th time the EMF is recognizing one of the many new or redeveloped museums in the 47 member states of the Council of Europe. This year, the award will go to the museum that shows outstanding professional excellence and, which above all, demonstrates that it understands and fulfills the needs of its audiences.

During this exciting three-day event, museum professionals from all over Europe will come together to discuss the latest trends in European museum development and celebrate the European Museum of the Year Award 2012.

New appointments were made at a European Museum Forum Board of Trustees meeting held in Liverpool, UK, on 7 March 2012.

Goranka Horjan, Director of the Museums of Hrvatsko Zagorje in Croatia, was appointed the new Chair of the EMF. Ms Horjan will take over this role from Mikhail Gnedovsky (Russia) who remains an EMF Trustee.

Museum of Contraception and Abortion, Vienna (www.muvs.org), the first winner of Kenneth Hudson Award established by the European Museum Forum in 2010, was named as best presenter of an award-winning project at the Best in Heritage conference held in Dubrovnik, Croatia, on 22–24 September 2011.
